We got our first big snow of the season last night here in New Hampshire. One of my favorite forms of winter exercise is snowshoeing (a type of shoe I know almost nothing about!), so I decided to take my black lab Jack out for a trek. We stopped at the head of the trail behind my house so I could take a picture, and just as I snapped it he took off into the woods with wild abandon. The moment is captured below.
Jack loves the snow, and he loves to run. The combination makes for a vary happy dog (and a very happy dad!).
When I saw the title, I was like, “it’s going to be a dog”. Nailed it.
Great picture; amazing how 4 legs, webbed feet, a fur coat and unbridled enthusiasm trumps Gore-Tex, running snowshoes and a Garmin. My Chesapeake Bay Retriever loves it when I can substitute a snowshoe run for a road or treadmill run. I’m glad you can share it with your dog too.
Plus – my guy is way too tired after an hour on a “snowshoe” run to cause any trouble around the house for a few days.

Jack is great at creating such a winding path through the snow that he probably does twice the mileage I do in the same time period. Definitely helps tire him out!
aw
doggy!
gosh i wish i could be around snow more :/
There is something irrepressibly joyful about the picture tearing off in the snow. I guess it’s because I can empathise with that feeling of childlike glee when you get go play on fresh snow.
We have floods and lots of tree down thanks to a recent storm, but no snow yet. Even out local peak only has a dusting of snow on it as it’s been very mild for December.
We’ve had a particularly cold start to winter this year, and I suspect it will be a snowy one. Tough for running, but great for snowshoes!
Few things make me happier than running with my dog. So glad you shared this pic.
The road sign in the pic is a nice touch!
It describes the path he likes to take through the snow quite well!
