Running should be fun, right? That’s the message I take from the video below, which shows a kid’s cross country race held by the Ohope Beach School in New Zealand (see video below).
Looks like a beautiful place, and love that the kids are mostly running the race barefoot!

Thanks to @dodgyfr1 on Twitter for passing this along!
Glorious.
we grew up in New Zealand running about barefoot, its what kiwi kids do :)
Love it! Every one of those kids is running exactly how we should all be running: for the fun and love of it.
The kid running in Wellies at the beginning is awesome.
I have more respect for these kids running barefoot across rough terrain than elite and pro runners and their groomed golf course routes.
Thanks for posting.
Awesome. The scenery alone is amazing. No hills like those in Minnesota, unfortunately. Plus, the kid starting the very first race in wellies, Batman wellies if I’m not mistaken (yes, I have little kids) is sweet. My 4 mile race this weekend should be properly done in rubber boots.
Awesome. That brings back memories of cross country running as a kid in New Zealand. Ohope Beach is a great part of the world.
Hi Peter,
Speaking of barefoot, check what this local guy is about to do. Unreal!!
It will be very interesting to follow his adventure on his blog .

Hi Pete
Check this out, NZ’s Ruby Muir takes out the women’s 100km Tarawera Ultra in a pair of VFF Seeyas! 7th overall too, managing to “chick” a couple of notable elite men in the process. She talks about growing up barefoot.

She’s amazing!

I remember her sailing past me in a race once when I was in the last 5km of a half marathon and she was finishing a full marathon. She skipped over the muddy ground I was trudging through like it wasn’t there and then, bam, she was over the hill and out of sight. Unbelievable runner.
Wonderful – they breed them tough in NZ – no time for unnecessary, expensive running shoes – well done!
