Photo-Run #2: A Runner and His Dog on the Road and Trail in Concord, NH

Whenever I read run reports from other runners on sites like Dailymile or Twitter, I always try to picture what the area they run in looks like. With that in mind, I decided to let everyone in on what it’s like to run in Concord, NH with a dog named Jack. All of these photos were taken this afternoon during a leisurely 5.5 mile jog along our favorite running route. Enjoy!

Me and Jack – ready to go! Thanks to our 5yo whiz of a photographer!

Another shot of the running partners.

Cemetery where I sometimes run intervals and one of Jack’s favorite walking spots.

Beaver Meadow Golf Course

The road to the Merrimack River.

Goin’ down to the river to play…

Entrance to Sewall’s Falls Recreation Area

The Merrimack River – Swimmin’ Spot #1

Another nice river shot – less than 1.5 miles from home.

Jack taking his first dip of the run.

Swim for the stick – one of the pup’s favorite games.

Off-Leash and heading for the Sewall’s Falls Trail

Sewall’s Falls Trailhead

River trail – Merrimack River is down the hill to the right. Jack loves this spot because there are tons of dogs and he can run free.

Another shot from the Sewall’s Falls Trail.

Stream crossing (that would be Jack’s tail heading under the bridge on the right)…

…but Jack prefers to go through it and take a drink.

Come on dad, keep up will ya!!!

Swimmin’ hole #2.

More stick fetch by the Sewall’s Falls Bridge (that’s Jack in the water).

Looking upriver.

Back on the road – the only significant uphill of the run.

Through a neighborhood.

Jack leading the way home.

The final stretch – 0.19 miles to the house (I’m a Garmin nerd).

So there you have it, a day in the running life of me and my dog – hope you enjoyed looking at it as much as I did making it!

Happy running!

I enjoyed this very much. It looks really really gorgeous to run where you live Peter and Jack! Thanks for sharing this. You have inspired me to do the same.

    Peter,

Thanks for sharing this run today, you have beautiful places to run and a great companion. Jack looks like one happy dog, and to take dips like that he is in heaven. Keep us posted on your future runs with Jack…

  3. These pictures make me want to move in with my parents in Keene NH!! We just don’t have the same scenery down here in SC. Well, besides the beach, lol

Keene is beautiful! We hiked Monadnock earlier this summer and had a great
time, and I’m considering doing a trail race nearby there in September.
I’ll add your blog to my list (just started it last night).

      Pete

  4. What good times. My best friend and next-door neighbor when I was living in Upstate New York in the 80s had a black lab. We used to take her on walks into the woods, down by the stream, and up the hills that edged our back yards. I don’t think we quite knew just how good we had it at the time. Thanks for sharing – brought back some great memories.
