Are you ready for minimalist running?–Self-Assessment video from Jay Dicharry and Running Times

Running Times just posted an excellent video by physical therapist and gait expert Jay Dicharry that discusses some self-assessment techniques that you can use to determine if you are going to have an easy transition to more minimalist running shoes or barefoot running. I’ve become a big believer in the importance of balance and proper big toe function for stability during stance phase of running, and this video does a great job showing you how to determine how you stack up in these areas.   1. Besides adding a few additional points to the video about technique of running I only had an issue with one comment. I am not a fan of using the language “drive the big toe into the ground”. Imo no part of the body needs to be drive down actively as gravity insures we will get there. Ideally we should be thinking landing as lightly as possible and releasing our posture with ease from step to step.
