Vibram Fivefingers: New Models On-Line (Trek, Moc, and Performa)

Vibram has now updated their website with several of the new Fivefingers models. These include the Fivefingers KSO Trek for trailrunning (available in Men’s only for now – though there is a petition out for a women’s VFF Trek to be developed), and the Vibram Fivefingers Moc (Men’s) and Performa (Women’s). Below are photos of each of the new models, with model descriptions taken directly from the Vibram website.  For more information, you can visit the Vibram Fivefingers product page.

Product description  from the Vibram website: “The Men’s KSO Trek is a more rugged version of our popular KSO. The kangaroo leather upper and sock liner feels soft against the foot, yet is strong and tear resistant, with outstanding breathability. A 4mm EVA midsole offers plating protection from stone bruising, and a lightly cleated 4mm Vibram performance rubber outsole delivers improved traction on trails and over more rugged terrain.”

Product description  from the Vibram website:The FiveFingers Moc was designed to enhance a barefoot feeling. The kangaroo leather upper feels soft against the bare foot, yet is strong and tear resistant. The 7-part Vibram rubber sole offers maximum feel and flexibility without sacrificing slip resistance. The FiveFingers Moc was designed primarily for indoor use during fitness training, CrossFit, yoga and for after sport. The sole is not designed for extended use during outdoor activities like trekking, running, or water sports.

Product description  from the Vibram website:The FiveFingers Performa was designed to enhance a barefoot feeling. The kangaroo leather upper feels soft against the bare foot, yet is strong and tear resistant. The 7-part Vibram rubber sole offers maximum feel and flexibility without sacrificing slip resistance. The Performa was designed primarily for indoor use during fitness training, CrossFit, and for after sport. The sole is not designed for extended use during outdoor activities like trekking, running, or water sports.

My Take: All three models are made with kangaroo leather, and as a result the prices are pretty steep ($125 for the Trek, $110 for the Moc and Performa). Although the KSO Trek’s are appealing given my experience running over rocks in my regular KSO’s (painful!), the current pricing is going to prevent me from splurging for any of these models.  I’m hoping that they come out with a non-kangaroo leather version of the Trek at a lower price-point.  The one model that I find to be most intriguing is the Vibram Fivefingers Bikila, which is set to be released sometime in early 2010 – I’ll likely be saving my money for that one.
