I’ve kind of been thinking a lot about that idea – the older runner topic resonates with me, I guess because I’m now an older runner :) I was thinking the other day about whether I’d run another marathon at some point, and just don’t know the answer to that. I’m in no rush. Also, it’s not out of the question to beat old PR’s, but the challenges we navigate as we get older are time, injuries, recovery, etc. Lots has to go right to train for high level performance.

I value your opinion a great deal – your shoe reviews really helped me find something that worked for me. And it seemed as if your recommendations were spot on.

And this post really resonated as well. I have been struggling mentally with marathon PRs that I can never again attain. I came relatively close 6 months ago but that was a perfect storm of weather, course, and 4% shoes. I didn’t start running until I was 34 ten years ago but have hovered around 3 hours for the past 6 years.

A blog that speaks to the mid-40 and up crowd that won’t reach the peak again might be a good idea.

Thanks Aaron! I’m at that “need” point right now, have been running most days this summer and the hardest part for me is allowing my older body to rest when needed. I feel like if I don’t run I’ll lost steam again. Irrational probably, but I really want to keep it up this time.

As for Arsenal, sadly no. Summer is too busy with kids camps, summer soccer, etc. I did go see PSG play against Monaco in Paris in April – amazing experience!

I’m about the same age, and think we’re at about the same pace when fully fit. I’ve generally avoided races because (for me) it takes the fun out of running: I no longer “get” to run, but now I “need” to run. The former is a gift, the latter is an obligation. I run 30-40 miles most weeks, don’t do races, and couldn’t be happier.

I think your mind is going in a similar direction, just taking a different path there. Any day you get to run (especially with family and loved ones) is always a special gift.

BTW – are you getting to Charlotte or DC to see Arsenal play here in the US.

Yeah, they gave me a new one to use – runblog2019. They just asked me not to put it on the ads on site and I haven’t gotten around to updating them.

FYI – Your Runblog10 discount code hasn’t worked at Runningwarehouse in a long time. They started cracking down on their discount codes over a year ago and many of them got decommisioned as a result.
