I’ve tried them many times on snowy or muddy trails, it take just 15 minutes for the inner of the shoe to be completely wet. I dont’ know how they have tested their “Out Dry” membrane in laboratory, but in real conditions with melting snow or small rain, it doesn’t work at all. Its too bad because this shoe could have been a good compromise for people who are searching for a “minimalist oriented” winter shoe: very lightweight, with little drop and a rather thin sole that allow a mid foot strike with good ground feel. The Altra is “zero drop” but its sole is definitively too thick to allow the slightest proprioceptive input, the tight toe box of Salomon is only suitable for a minority of “greek” feet, and all others models have too much more stack height and rigidity for runners who prefer the “minimalist” tendency). But a winter shoe with so bad “waterproof” performance can’t be an option.

I don’t have read feedbacks about the new “Atom S Evo”, but the membrane is apparently the same…

This is going to help so much. Thank you for the post. Going to try the The North Face Ultra MT Winter.

I am reaching out to fellow runners regarding a foot surgery I may need to have. Wondering if you know of anyone who has had a broken sesamoid bone and had the surgery to remove it?! If so, please let me know!! Thank you so much!!
