Hi Sascha,

Partly, I didn’t review them because I do have to narrow down the shoes I do review, but also, Pete typically focuses more on the road stuff while I try to cover the trail shoes, from a review standpoint at least. Obviously, I still run in a fair bit of road shoes :). Thanks for reading! -David

Hi David, great article! What’s the reason you didn’t review any of your three recommended road running shoes? Simply not enough time?

This is a great post and I am also a tad jealous of that shoe collection.

Hi Gabriel,

I love both the 232 and 235. Some of my favorite inov-8’s! While there aren’t that many great road to trail shoes right now that also have a wide toebox. The Salmings ride great and do have a natural feel to them. I don’t find the toebox to be too narrow, but it is definitely not a wide fit. The Altra Superior 2.0 was one of my honorable mentions in the above post and it runs well on the road for me in addition to Altra’s great wide toebox so might be worth a look. Other than that the Topo Athletic MT-2: http://shop.topoathletic.com/mens/Outdoor.html?colorid=1982&model=MT-2 is worth a look as well and would handle road well as well as a wide toebox in a more minimalist package. I have a pair but don’t have enough runs in them to give my full recommendation or not, but they fit great and are an improvement on the original MT and Runventure. -David

I’ve been running a trail/road mix in Inov-8 f-lite 195s, 232s and the trailroc 235s. I love the Inov8s but they’re becoming more of a focussed trail/mud/crossfit outfit and I want something that can handle decent quantities of road ideally with a slightly bigger toebox. Do you think the Salming is a good option? Do you really get the minimalist feel with a 5mm drop?

Thanks for the comment! Out of the shoes I recommended the adidas Glide 7 is probably the closest to the Ghost. The Skechers GOultra Road is fantastic too with softer cushion than the Glide. -David

I don’t run anywhere near as much as you, but I need to replace my Ghost 7’s pretty soon and I’m trying to decide what to get, I will certainly be checking out some of your recommendations.
