Thanks, VCM is a huge wildcard with the weather. Hot the first time I ran it, rainy and cool the second time. One thing I find helpful as a confidence boost is to run a solo half-marathon at a reasonably hard pace about 4 weeks out. If I can do it comfortably at faster than marathon pace it gives me a lot of confidence that I can run slower for 26.2

Maybe run by feel in a marathon isn’t such good advice, I suspect I might wind up doing the same :) I have to be very disciplined to hold back early in a marathon, and Garmin’s are great for helping with that.

I’m loving the Virrata, and personally think it has the best forefoot cushion of any shoe I’ve run in for a long time. My wife is like you – tries lots of shoes, very few work. I’m lucky in that I can run in just about anything without too much trouble.

Time on feet. Made this mistake prior to my only marathon, ended up giving back 15 minutes in the second half. But the training I did was perfect for the 15k two weeks later. Time on feet.

The big long runs will decide :) GoRun 2, Virrata, and a new outsider is the Kinvara 4. First run in the K4 coming up in a few hours!

If you’re referring to my Tweet from last week, it was an April Fool’s joke :)

Thx Pete and good luck to you with your spring marathon :)
