I do wonder at my sanity in that the shoes I’m most looking forward to wearing are always a few months away from production.

I don’t mean the wear testing. I mean how bloggers are now part of the marketing machinery. Three posts in a row on one shoe. But once again no offense. It’s just interesting to note.

Why is it so interesting? They’d be stupid not to include bloggers in shoe marketing. And to be honest, they didn’t ask me to post the video, and they didn’t ask me to post the photos – I asked for them from somebody I know at the company (not a marketer) because I’m interested in the shoe and thought my readers would be. The only thing I was asked was if I’d be willing to share the request for wear testers, and judging by the number of people who have already clicked over to the application I’d say a lot of people appreciate the opportunity.

Many major running companies have taken that approach recently i.e. New Balance, Saucony, etc and runners seem to be a little annoyed that while their products are more suited for a forefoot strike they aren’t really built with that in mind. They are building shoes for people to transition and not building a shoe for those who are already there (a large and growing number) in their video they really explain that they designed this shoe for the forefoot strike and at zero drop it really isn’t a transitional shoe.

I think it’s good that they want to know how well the shoe works for those it was designed for. I’m sure they will do other wear tests but I think this is the right approach.

Every shoe company does wear testing like this, it’s a normal part of product development.
