I have not run since the day I hit puberty but I can identify a bit with the injuries. At 32 I was getting damage to my feet from cycling. My podiatrist (a devoted marathon runner) put me in orthotics and because I have worn them since I was 5 years old I complied without question. Without going into too much detail I ended up spending 3 months in a wheelchair and years of physical therapy. Finally I tried a product called yoga toes that separates each toe similarly to the fivefingers. I remember laughing at the picture of the foot with each toe separate and none turned or underneath others. By going slowly I eventually had feet just like those on the front and I haven’t worn orthotics in 10 years. Not once have I had more than a twinge in my heel but a few days of the separation sets it right every time. Unfortunately, I am still not a runner but I am considerably more comfortable now than I ever was with orthotics – – even as a kid. Please keep telling people that they aren’t as great as we thought they were.
Thanks for a great entry.

From the review it looks like they are a fivefinger without the individualized toes. They might be a great option for the women that is in the military in the first story that is not allowed to wear fivefingers with her uniform.

Both of the stories are very inspiring.

They’re basically the same thing without the toe pockets.

I’ve been running in them for a while now and it’s been great. I don’t know what the military shoe requirements are but the Evo’s look like a normal shoe but have the same minimalist concepts as the Vibrams. They are a little pricey though but they are supposed to last a very long time

What the heck?!

Is there any rationale behind the ban or is this just another stupid regulation? This reminds me why I left the service (Navy).

Charlie – keeping my fingers crossed – my Merrell review pair is supposed to
arrive tomorrow. After reading Jason’s review, I can’t wait to try them!
You’re right, they would be a perfect option for her.

Since she likes the VFF I would think the Sgt would like the Eve. I realize that the shoes don’t go on sale until March but this shoes seems great.

Don’t know if I am more excited about the NB Trail Minimus or the Altras. Choices, choices, choices.

Thought about that, but not sure if it’s considered to look enough like a
traditional sneaker. Depends what the exact regs are I guess.

I think everyone that purchases VFF’s do so to take a risk in order to attempt to get more from their running. For me, I am back into running for the first time in 6 months due to a hip flexor injury. VFF’s are the reason as they have taught me to run properly with the correct form.

R. Thank you for your service to our country. It is because of people like you that we can worry about running.
