I agree that it can be tough to run out front – I’ve never quite done that but did finish 3rd in a 5K last year with the leaders way out of sight. Sounds like a devil of a 5K course.

it’s only happened to me a few times when I’ve won a local club race!
The best advice on how to deal with racing when your on your own came from Scott Jurek in a podcast on Marathon Talk http://runwitharthurlydiard.bl…
It’s about running in ‘the moment’ on concentrating on running your best[ form, speed, effort] in the here and now and not letting your mind drift to the next hill-mile- finish etc!
