You’re right he does land in front of his hips. I think he is dropping his lead foot too soon.

Matt,

Two of my students went down to Boston and shot the video for me. I’m
a college prof, and they’ve been doing footstrike research with me
this year, and they offered to go since I had to teach.

I hope to be running Boston myself next year, but I’ve got some work
cut out for me to BQ – I’m close, but not quite where I need to be
(3:15:59). You can get cameras that will do this level of slow motion
pretty cheap – I’ll try to write a post up with details.

Pete

It’s not as far as a heel striker, but it’s noticeable.

I’d love to see footage of myself like that; it seems so instructive. I found you via runbulldogrun.com; he (and you) make it seem like you shot it. Will you be there next year? (I’ll be running it then; I had to miss it this year, the first I had qualified, because my first child was born two days earlier.)

Looks great though, especially for a marathon. Excelent mechanics.

Thanks for posting this Pete, awesome video. I think more high speed video of elites needs to be taken like this!
