I went through the proper recovery process (rest, slowly build up to some strength training, and etc.,), but for almost a year, no matter what I do, the previous calf injury always came back to annoy me. It was very frustrating and I came across this forum and others which praise the benefits of barefoot running. I decided to give it a try and switched to the ‘beginner’ barefoot running shoes with a pair of Nike Free’s, and recently, Nike Free Run+ (ever since it first came out). After almost 6 months of ‘relearning’ to run with the Free’s, I am finally getting back to my old running self. Even better, I no longer have ANY discomfort from my previous calf injury or any other typical physical annoyances that happen from time to time for runners. With the Nike Free Run+ (and DEFINITELY with my change in running style), I have been able to push myself further doing 70+ miles a week comfortably now. I am not trying to train to be a competitive runner, but simply want to maintain an active lifestyle and remain injury free for many years to come. I do not think I will ever consider switching to vibra’s, but I am very interested in trying out Newton’s. For now, I am very comfortable in my Nike Free Run+’s, but yes…soles of these shoes tend to wear out fast especially when I run only on concrete / pavement. I have 3 exact pairs and I rotate them.

I see you’re progressing nicely. ;)
