How Running Thirsty Makes You Faster

I know this is based on an older study so maybe it's been discussed enough...but I'm just curios how if anybody consciously keeps their water intake low for some training sessions. I'm personally just happy to make it through my runs in the Texas heat without keeling over - at times I dehydrate no matter how much I drink...and it absolutely sucks! ;-)
