This Week in Runblogging: June 2–June 8 2014

Salomon Sense Pro and UltraThe big running news for me this week was that my beginner 5K group ran their end-of-program race yesterday. It’s incredibly rewarding as a coach to see how far they have progressed over the past 9 weeks, and even more rewarding to have been able to watch them cross the finish line of what I hope will be the first of many races to come. A huge congrats to the entire team!

Shoes I Ran in This Week

Asics Gel Lyte33 v3 (14.5 miles), Asics Hyperspeed 6 (9 miles), Salomon Sense Pro (8.5 miles), Salomon Sense 3 Ultra (hiked 4 miles).

6. Not about running, but I found this article on Backcountry.com about climbing shoes to be an interesting read (I don’t climb, but have been taking my 4-year old son to a kid’s climbing class every Wednesday morning for the past several months). Titled “Are Your Climbing Shoes Too Tight?,” the article address the common practice among climbers to wear shoes that are too small for their feet, and the damage that can result. This advice could just as easily apply to runners: “Go for fit. Above brand. Above reviews. Above what others say. Above what famous athletes wear. And make sure that fit is comfortable. If you’re in pain after one pitch, you should either size up or move on to a different model.”
