Minimalist Running

I would consider my self to be a minimalist runner in most situations. Although I like and wear shoes while I run (I’m not a “barefoot” runner), my preferences tend toward as light a running shoe as possible, preferably with a low heel (e.g., I run in Vibram Fivefingers regularly for foot and leg strengthening purposes, and most of my other shoes are racing flats or lightweight trainers). I’m also highly interested in the biomechanics of running, particularly as it relates to footwear or the lack thereof. Below are a series of posts that I have written about minimalist running.

  1. Peter,

I hope you are still monitoring this blog. I have recently, within the past few weeks, begun a barefoot/minimalist walking/running program. My question is: when you first started out, what physical issues (pain, discomfort, injury, adjustments) did you encounter? I have a few, at least one being “male”-specific.

    Thank you.
